Abstract painting in acrylics

SESSION TIMES: 10-1  Fridays or 10-1 Saturdays or 1.30-4.30 Saturdays or1.30-4.30 Sundays. You choose which session to attend each week. Each week we will look at a different artist or technique including Ad Reinhardt (wk1), Howard Hodgkin (What's in a name)(wk2), Jean Charles Millepied (wk3), Wendy McWilliams (wk4), Charlotte Foust (wk5), David Giles blended colour fields (wk6) and David Giles gestural expressive mark making(wK7), The last week will be an opportunity to try your own style.

Professional Development Program

SESSION TIMES: 1.30-4.30 Fridays

This program is for those who wish to develop a career as an artist. How to develop a signature style, how to promote yourself and how to develop a business plan will be amongst the topics covered. There will be a strong focus on reviewing works by participants rather than actually painting in the sessions.

Each session will begin with a demonstration by David.  Participants can opt to follow the demo or do their own thing. Either way David will be on hand to support and assist you to find your own creative expression. David Giles is a multi award winning artist with 20 art awards and more than 40 solo exhibitions to his name. He has featured in numerous books and art magazines and on an ABC documentary about his art career. His classes are about using art as a tool for personal exploration and growth. He is passionate about the importance of creativity and imagination in creating a better world. 




Materials required: You will need to bring acrylic paints, matisse or atelier brand,white, red blue, yellow and a few other colours you like. You will also need a canvas to paint on. I recommend 76 x 76 cm but you can use any size that suits you. We have canvases for sale at Studio 11.

The Freedom School is a friendly and supportive group where people can enjoy art making in the company of like-minded people. With a focus on self-expression, The Freedom School Painting Program encourages participants to be experimental and trust their intuition and inner guidance in the process of art making. Many graduates of the Program have gone on to become multi-award winning artists with some exhibiting through Giles’ two galleries. The Program is open to anyone interested in exploring painting as a process of self-expression and self-discovery.
